"Becky Allen" "With the pageantry of the parades, Mardi Gras is a marvelous and colorful spectacle, but often the spectators themselves are just as fascinating, if not more so. For me, this crescendos on Fat Tuesday in the French Quarter, where marching krewes and masqueraders of all varieties blur that line until it ceases to exist.""As a photographer, my personal instinct is black and white, but on Mardi Gras, the colors must have their day. My antiqued portraits of Mardi Gras 2009 display slightly subdued hues, but add the depth and timeless quality of tinted postcards. I hope you enjoy my interpretation."Visit Mad Swirl's Mad Gallery right here!
I have 4 photographs and conduct an interview with Crystal Folz in the Outsider Writers Collective's zine, 1000th Monkey. Lots of great stuff...Pat King interviews Tim Hall, Jason Michel and Cheryl Townsend have poetry, and Caleb J. Ross writes faux reviews. Bravo!
My story A Reason to Believe is in Lynn Alexander and Aleathia Drehmer's new magazine Full of Crow. It is really taking form and I'm also pleased to have some photographs there from my "Dead for a Day" series. It is a blend of the New Orleans Bone Men and the Latin Americas' Day of the Dead tradition, which has been warmly adopted on this city's costumed holidays, Mardi Gras and Halloween.
