Mardi Gras is February 21st. My annual four house guests arrive in two weeks. WWOZ is playing carnival music. Krewe du Vieux is Saturday night. The pulse of the city is quickening as we gear up to celebrate our traditions and our most beloved holiday.
Group costumes are always a bit daunting as getting everyone to agree on a theme can be challenging. This year, the idea came from the smallest of the group. My six-year-old son wanted a tuxedo as one of his birthday presents. He received it in time to wear for New Year's Eve. I asked him why he wanted a tuxedo and he said he wanted to be a spy. Apparently, he believed a spy only needed a tuxedo and sunglasses. Since then, he has learned other gadgets are often handy for the spy (Thank you, Q). So, he wanted to wear his tuxedo on Mardi Gras and we went with that. This year, we eight or more will be "Purple, Green, and Goldfinger," a New Orleans take on the Ian Fleming book and subsequent movie, Goldfinger. I opted to be Miss Moneypenny, the long-suffering secretary in love with Mr. Bond.
Among other accessories, I thought a coin bracelet might be a nice touch. I found a darling vintage 1960s one from Second Wind Cabin. I was so taken (charmed?) with this bracelet, I couldn't wait for Mardi Gras to wear it. It is more beautiful "in person" and makes a lovely jingle. I couldn't be more delighted with it and felt compelled to make this little endorsement.
Thank you so very much, Victoria, for your beautiful find and the prompt delivery. I adore it.
So, visit Second Wind Cabin, not only for the store (I am currently eyeing vintage movie cameras...how did she know?), but also for interesting and informative DIY tips on restoring vintage and antique items. I'm so happy I stumbled upon this treasure.
Happy Mardi Gras!
Happy Camden, Maine's version of Mardi Gras which also
includes the US Tobaggan championships!
